Further Elys Launches are Planned in US and Canada for Later This Year

The sports betting market becomes ever more crowded with the entrance of interactive gaming and sports betting provider Elys Game Technology, who just recently revealed its intentions to launch its online sportsbook platform catered specifically for the US and Canadian markets during the third quarter of this year (Q3 2023).

The launch will take the form of a mobile app being made available for a free download in both the iOS and Android app stores. The products will be running on a GLI-33 certified platform, replete with a diverse selections of customization tools and cybersecurity features.

In further clarifying the intentions behind the launch, Elys explained that the move would fall directly in line with its continued growth plans in North America, clarifying that even more launches are in the works for select Canadian and US markets later this year in 2023.

Liberalization of US Gambling Market Has Paved Way for Many Growth Opportunities

Sharing a statement on the news of the impending launch of Elys’ sportsbook product in the US and Canada was Elys executive chairman Michele Ciavarella, who cited the 2018 repeal of Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) as a major green light for new market opportunities springing up left and right:

“Since the repeal of PASPA in 2018, we have seen the US market begin to take shape with many years of growth and development potentially ahead. The liberalization of the US market has also led to greater market opportunities with legislative changes in Canada as well.”Michele Ciavarella, Executive Chairman, Elys Game Technology, Press Release

Ciavarella then noted how Elys has taken its time to launch new products in the increasingly crowded market, instead opting to more closely analyze the market before making any big moves:

“Elys has taken this early-stage opportunity to analyze market behavior and to better understand what North American sports bettors want, rather than race to gain market share in uncharted spaces.”

Finally, the executive chairman harkened back to Elys’ already announced launches in North America, as well as its existing retail presence, as key in helping the operator build its mobile betting offering:

“Our previously announced partnerships in both online and retail deployments in North America have been instrumental in developing our new mobile product so that Elys could offer the largest range of events combined with the most competitive odds and player tools available in the US to rival top competitors currently in the North American space. We expect to provide additional information over the coming months as Elys moves forward with state-by-state and tribal openings throughout the year.”

Elys Launch Second Washington, D.C. Sportsbook Back in October 2022

One of these previously announced sportsbook launches arrived not long ago in October 2022, when Elys revealed that it had earned the necessary regulatory approval to open a second retail sportsbook location in the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. Their ability to do so was all thanks to a renewed partnership with the Grand Central Restaurant and Sportsbook.

The approval builds upon the company’s already-existing retail sportsbook located at the very same Grand Central Restaurant and Sportsbook, which launched on October 4th, 2021, holding the title of the first sportsbook situated at a bar which is not operated by the Washington, D.C. state lottery’s Gambet operator.

Elys executive chairman Michele Ciavarella once again cited the success of the first location as paving the way for the second, before taking a moment to thank the DC Department of Small & Local Business Development (DSLBD) and the DC Office of Lottery and Gaming (DCOLG) in particular for their support in making the second launch an increasing reality:

“We are extremely pleased with the strong performance of this first location in the Adams Morgan district of DC, as illustrated by the continuous growth in betting handle. Given this joint success, we are proud to now announce plans for a second sportsbook location with the ownership of Grand Central in DC. We believe our sportsbook solutions could play an important role in supporting the recovery of bars, restaurants and other small businesses post pandemic, and are witnessing very strong interest and demand for our solutions and our highly popular Build-Your-Bet feature for sports bettors. We appreciate the support of the DCOLG in establishing and developing our first MSP location and together with DSLDB we now look forward to working closely with District officials and ownership to advance plans for this second location and others underway through this new implementation model.”

BetMGM Rolled Out Sportsbook Offering in Massachusetts in February 2023

In terms of other major recent sportsbook launches, one cannot omit the launch of BetMGM’s retail sports betting offering in the state of Massachusetts, arriving just in time for the legal market’s opening on January 31st, 2023.

The sportsbook is up and running at the BetMGM Sportsbook & Lounge at the MGM Springfield in Springfield, Massachusetts, with local mayor Domenic J. Sarno enjoying the privilege of putting down the state’s very first legal wager.

Mayor Sarno used his shared statement to show his gratitude to the large and diverse team that helped make the dream of retail sports betting in Massachusetts a reality:

“Yet another first for our city of Springfield (the City of Firsts) and for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This has been a long time coming and brings yet another chapter of innovation to enhance the operations and development at MGM Springfield. As a strong proponent of MGM Springfield and their marquee Sports Betting Lounge, which will bring more jobs and economic spin-off effect to Springfield and the region, I am honored to join with MGM Springfield President Chris Kelley, BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt, MGM Resorts VP Chris Gumiela, and Bruins Legend and Hall of Famer Ray Bourque, to make the first sports wager in the state – maybe I’ll pick a winner for the Super Bowl.”
